Edgerunners 2 Anime Portraits: A TikTok and Instagram Playbook

13 min read · Published Oct 12, 2026 · By the Cyber Anime Filter team

To post Edgerunners 2 anime portraits well, give each of the 4 images one job: the portrait is your avatar, the action image is the story or the TikTok cover, all four make the carousel, and the street or key-art image is the wallpaper. Cyber Anime Filter, a Cyberpunk Edgerunners AI filter that draws that set of 4 from one photo, delivers PNG files in vertical, square or wide, plus an optional 10-second silent video you add a sound to inside the app.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres on Netflix on October 20, 2026. This playbook covers what to make before that date, which file goes where, how to run a before and after reveal, what to write in the caption, how to label AI content, and how to stay on the right side of fan-art manners.

Key takeaways

  • One set is 4 images: portrait, action, street and key art. Pick the format before you render, because it decides where the image fits.
  • Square 1:1 is for avatars. Vertical is for stories, TikTok and phone wallpapers. Wide 16:9 is for desktop wallpapers and posts on Discord.
  • The video is 10 seconds, silent, in 9:16 or 16:9. Add the sound in TikTok or Instagram, not before.
  • Label the post as AI-made and as fan art. The images are unofficial and should never be presented as art from the show.

What you have to post with: four images, three shapes, one video

Every render on Cyber Anime Filter returns the same four shots of the same character, drawn with GPT Image from OpenAI:

  1. Portrait. Chest up, three-quarter view, eyes to the camera, with the scene out of focus behind.
  2. Action. The big moment of the style, such as the after-image trail in Sandevistan Rush or the viewfinder frame in Camcorder REC.
  3. Street. A full-body wide shot with the character small in the location.
  4. Key art. A low-angle poster pose cut out against a flat graphic background.

You choose one format per set, and all 4 images come in that shape:

Format Pixel size Shape Best for
Vertical 9:16 1024 × 1536 Tall Stories, TikTok photo posts, phone wallpapers
Square 1:1 1024 × 1024 Square Avatars, grid posts, Discord server icons
Wide 16:9 1536 × 1024 Landscape Desktop wallpapers, Discord posts, banners

Two honest notes on those numbers. First, the vertical file is 1024 × 1536 pixels, which is a 2:3 shape. A phone story screen is a little taller than that, so a story or a lock screen will either zoom in slightly or leave a strip at the top and bottom. Second, the wide file is 1536 pixels across, which is fewer pixels than a full HD monitor has, so a desktop wallpaper is scaled up a little. Flat colour and hard ink lines scale more gracefully than a photo does, but it is not a 4K file.

The images are PNG with no watermark, and each one downloads separately. Finished sets stay in your account for 7 days, so download them before you plan the week.

A set costs 1 credit in any format. If you want an avatar and a story in their proper shapes, that is two sets: one square and one vertical.

Which image goes where

Placement Image to use Format to render
Avatar on TikTok, Instagram or Discord Portrait Square 1:1
Instagram or TikTok story Action or key art Vertical 9:16
Carousel or photo post All four, in order Vertical 9:16 or square 1:1
Phone wallpaper Street or key art Vertical 9:16
Desktop wallpaper Street Wide 16:9
Post in a Discord channel Action or key art Wide 16:9

Avatar

TikTok, Instagram and Discord all show profile pictures as a small circle. That circle cuts the corners off a square and shrinks the result to thumbnail size, so the only image that survives is the one where your face is large: the portrait.

Render it in square 1:1. If you have not picked a style yet, Moonlit Netrunner is the one the site suggests for avatars, because its portrait has one light source and a plain moon behind the head. Busy neon backgrounds turn to noise at that size. Check the circle preview before you save, and make sure the hair is not clipped.

Story

A story is on screen for a few seconds, so use the loudest image: the action shot. If the action image for your style is a wide composition that loses too much when cropped tall, use the key art, which is built like a poster and reads at a glance.

Carousel

A carousel is where the set makes sense as a set. Post all four in the order they were drawn. Portrait first, so the first thing people see is a face. Action second, as the reward for swiping. Street third, to show the world. Key art last, as the closing poster.

Instagram crops feed images to its own shapes, so look at the crop preview for each slide before you publish and move the frame if a head is cut off.

Wallpaper

The street image is the best wallpaper, because the character is small and the scene fills the frame. App icons and a clock can sit over the scenery without covering a face. On a phone, the key art also works if you like a bolder lock screen.

Using the 10-second video and adding a sound

Cyber Anime Filter can animate your image into a 10-second clip, made with Seedance 2.0 from ByteDance. The clip starts on your portrait, moves into the action of the style and ends on a held pose. It comes as an MP4 in 9:16 or 16:9.

Quality Credits
480p 10
720p HD 22
1080p Full HD 40

The file is silent on purpose. There is no speech, no music and no sound effects in it. That keeps the choice of sound yours, and it means the only audio on your post is the one you add inside the app, from the app's own library.

A few things that help:

  • Pick 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and stories, and 16:9 if the clip is going into a Discord channel or onto a desktop.
  • Add the sound in the app you post to. The opening theme of the new season is "10:15 Saturday Night" by The Cure and the ending theme is "Watson" by Petite Meller. Whether a given track is offered in an app's sound library depends on the app and your region, so search for it there. If it is missing, use any sound the app does offer.
  • Know the limit. AI video varies. Hands and small details can shift slightly between frames.

Video costs far more credits than images, so decide on the style with a 1-credit image set first, and animate once you know you like the character.

The before and after reveal format

The format that suits this effect best is the simplest one: your real photo, then the drawing.

As a carousel:

  1. Slide 1: the photo you uploaded.
  2. Slide 2: the portrait.
  3. Slide 3: the action image.
  4. Slide 4: the street image.
  5. Slide 5: the key art.

As a short video: open on the photo for a second or two, then cut to the 10-second clip. The clip begins on the portrait, so the cut from your photo to the drawn version of the same face is the reveal. Put the cut on a beat of the sound you picked.

Three things make a reveal land:

  • Use the exact photo you uploaded. The match in hair and expression is what makes people look twice.
  • Keep the same crop. If the photo is chest up, follow it with the portrait, not the wide street shot.
  • Only show your own face. A before and after puts a real photo next to the drawing. Post photos of yourself, or of adults who agreed to it.

A posting plan around October 20, 2026

The premiere date is confirmed. The hour is not: as of this writing no release time has been officially announced, and we have not seen confirmation of whether all 10 episodes arrive at once. So plan by date.

  1. The week before. Make your sets now, while there is time to try a second photo if the first one does not look like you. Take the free Edgerunners 2 character quiz to see which of the four leads you sit closest to: Weak Kingsley, D, Roman Carax or Talia Yang. It suggests a matching style.
  2. A few days before. Change your avatar to the square portrait. It is a quiet way to say you are watching, and it sets up the reveal.
  3. October 20. Post the before and after. Use a Season 2 look style here: Camcorder REC, Burned-Out Legend, Nomad Netrunner or Chrome Gang. They are drawn in the brighter daylight look of the new season, which Netflix's Tudum describes as a reimagined animation style.
  4. The days after. Post a Classic neon set next to a Season 2 look set from the same photo. The contrast between the 2022 night look and the new one is a post in its own right.

Be careful with spoilers once the episodes are out. Your portrait gives nothing away, but your caption might.

Captions and hashtag ideas

Keep captions short and say what the image is. A few starting points:

  • "Before and after. Fan art of me, drawn by AI in the Edgerunners style."
  • "Got Roman on the character quiz, so here is the camcorder version of me."
  • "Classic neon or the Season 2 look? Same photo, two sets."
  • "New avatar for October 20."

The 8 styles are original outfits and scenes. They are not the show's characters, so say "in the style of" and avoid saying you are a named character.

Hashtags tell people and the platform what the post is. We have no data on which tags perform, so treat these as ideas and check what is active when you post:

  • The show: #Edgerunners2, #CyberpunkEdgerunners, #Edgerunners, #Cyberpunk, #NightCity
  • The medium: #anime, #animeart, #fanart
  • Disclosure: #aiart, #AIgenerated

On Discord, hashtags do nothing. A plain sentence does.

Labelling AI content on TikTok, Instagram and Discord

The images are AI-generated, and saying so is both honest and practical.

TikTok has a setting for creators to mark a post as AI-generated, and its rules require a label on AI content that shows realistic scenes or people. A flat-colour anime drawing is clearly stylised, but turning the label on costs nothing.

Instagram has an AI label as well, and Meta asks for it on realistic AI-made video and audio. Add it, or say so in the caption.

Discord has no platform-wide AI label. Each server sets its own rules. Some have a dedicated channel for AI art, and some do not allow it at all. Read the rules or ask a moderator before you post.

Platform rules change, so check the current wording in each app. Whatever the rule says, a line in the caption such as "AI-made fan art" settles the question before anyone asks it, and it keeps you clear of people who feel misled into thinking you drew it by hand.

Fan-art etiquette: unofficial means unofficial

Cyber Anime Filter is an independent fan-made tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by CD PROJEKT RED, Studio TRIGGER or Netflix, and it uses no footage, logos or character art from the series. What you post from it is fan art in the style of a show that other people own. A few manners follow from that:

  • Do not call it official. No "official art", no "from the show", no "leaked".
  • Do not add the show's logo or key art to your image. The official artwork belongs to its owners.
  • Do not sell it. Posting on your own accounts, avatars and wallpapers are fine. Merchandise is not something the site grants any right to make.
  • Do not pass it off as hand-drawn. Some fan-art spaces are for human-made work only. Respect that.
  • Do not post other people. Never make or post a drawing of someone who did not agree, and never of a celebrity or a minor. The site does not allow those uploads.

What a week of posts costs

There is no free tier and no subscription. Credits are bought in one-off packs, and they never expire. An image set is 1 credit. A video is 10, 22 or 40 credits.

Pack Price Credits One way to spend it
Solo $9.99 10 A square set for the avatar, a vertical set for the reveal, and 8 more sets to try other styles or photos
Crew $24.99 30 One set in each of the 8 styles, plus one 720p video
Legend $69.99 100 Two 1080p videos and 20 image sets

A render that fails or is blocked returns its credit automatically. A render that finished is spent, so pick your photo with care. Our guide to filter mistakes and their fixes covers what to check first, and the pricing page has the full terms. When you are ready, upload a photo to the generator and choose from the eight styles.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to tag Edgerunners AI portraits as AI-generated on TikTok or Instagram?

Images from Cyber Anime Filter are AI-generated, and labelling them as such is the safe choice on every platform. TikTok and Instagram both offer an AI label and ask for it on realistic AI content. An anime drawing is clearly stylised, so the strict rule may not apply, but rules change. Turn the label on or write AI-made fan art in the caption.

Which of the 4 images fits a round Discord or TikTok avatar?

Use the portrait image from a square 1:1 set on Cyber Anime Filter. It is a chest-up, three-quarter view with the face large in the frame, so it survives the round crop and the small size of an avatar. The square file is 1024 × 1024 pixels. The action, street and key-art images show the figure too small to read in a circle.

Does the 10-second Edgerunners video come with music from the anime?

No, Cyber Anime Filter delivers the 10-second video as a silent MP4 with no music, speech or sound effects. You add a sound inside TikTok, Instagram or another app when you post, using the library of that app. The clip is made with Seedance 2.0 from ByteDance and costs 10, 22 or 40 credits at 480p, 720p or 1080p.

When is the best time to post Edgerunners 2 fan art?

Cyber Anime Filter suggests planning around October 20, 2026, the date Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres on Netflix. Change your avatar a few days before, post the before and after reveal on the day, and follow with a second style afterwards. No release hour has been officially announced, so plan by date. We have no data promising that any day performs better.

Are the images big enough for a desktop wallpaper or a Discord banner?

The wide images from Cyber Anime Filter are 1536 × 1024 pixels, which works as a desktop wallpaper with some upscaling on a full HD or larger screen. Flat colour and ink lines enlarge more cleanly than photos, but the file is not 4K. A profile banner is much wider and shorter than 16:9, so expect to crop the top and bottom of the street image.
